Competitions

In a competition, teams submit images that the Grid runs against the same RF and traffic scenarios, and a leaderboard ranks the teams by how much traffic their radios deliver. Staff create the competitions and the teams, and add you to your team.

Finding a competition

The Leaderboards link on the Grid web page lists the active competitions. Click a competition’s name to see its leaderboard, or its “Submit” link to see its page, which describes the competition and its RF and traffic scenarios and lists your team’s submissions. The command gridcli competitions lists the competitions too.

Preparing an image

The Grid runs a submission as a batch reservation on nodes that the competition chooses, so no one logs in to the nodes. Your image must start its radio by itself, as an image whose radio runs as the dragonradio service does. Test your image in a batch reservation of your own with the competition’s scenarios before you submit it.

Submitting an image

Submit an image from the form on the competition’s page, or with gridcli submit IMAGE COMPETITION, where COMPETITION is the competition’s unique identifier, short name, or name. You may submit only your own images. If you belong to more than one team, choose the team with --team TEAM. The --radio-conf PATH option gives your radio a radio.conf, read from standard input if PATH is -.

The Grid queues your submission and runs it when its nodes are free. Teams take turns: a team that has never had a submission run goes first, then the team whose last run is oldest, and each team’s submissions run in the order they were submitted. The Grid runs the image as it is when the submission runs, not as it was when you submitted it, so do not change the image until then. The command gridcli submissions lists your submissions.

Scoring

When a submission’s reservation stops, the Grid scores it by the number of bytes of traffic that the radios delivered in the competition’s duration, counted from when the traffic starts. A team’s leaderboard entry is its best-scoring submission, shown in MB.
